THE HEALTHY MIND
THE HEALTHY MIND
Let us define mental health as the adjustment of human beings to the world and to each other with a maximum of effectiveness and happiness. Not just efficiency, or just contentment—or the grace of obeying the rules of the game cheerfully. It is all these together. It is the ability to maintain an even temper, an alert intelligence, socially considerate behavior, and a happy disposition. This, I think, is a healthy mind.
All sorts of explanations have held popular sway as to why we often don't have healthy minds:
Two thousand years ago it was “devils”.
In the middle ages it was “witches”.
A little later the Devil became “original sin”.
More recontly the practical-minded point of view regards misbehavior as “orneriness” or “pure cussedness”.
Of even more recent origin is the solemn, imponderable “individual responsibility”.
Then came the fallacy of the psychologists, the eugenicists and the psychiatrists.
But to understand mental health is to recognize individuals struggling with their environment and making a success of it. —Dr. Karl A. Menninger

"or the grace of obeying the rules of the game cheerfully"
The problem is that the fictitious corporation posing as a "government" literally refuses to obey the rules of the game. Attorneys also don't obey the rules of the game despite INSISTING on them (for THEIR benefit and the benefit of the governmental services corporation). Corporations don't abide by the rules except the rules that the governmental services corporation insists on.
